Clear aligners have become more popular over the last several years, and with good reason! This is a great treatment option for people who are looking for an easier way to get a straighter smile. Many patients are candidates for this treatment, and if you have alignment issues, it could be the right choice for your needs. Some of the benefits of clear liners are that they are nearly invisible, you can remove them while eating and while cleaning so there are no food restrictions, and you can clean your teeth normally as well.

The process of using your aligners is fairly simple- here's what you can expect:

The Clear Aligners Process

  • Consultation: The first step in getting this treatment is option is a consultation with a clear aligner dentist. If your alignment issues are not too severe, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. Your dentist will evaluate your needs, and determine the best course of action for your needs. This will include x-rays, a bite check, and a manual review of your teeth.
  • Impressions: Your dental team will take impressions of your teeth to have the trays made. These custom trays will be made to fit your teeth, and you will receive several trays to wear throughout the full extent of your treatment.
  • Trays: Once you receive your trays, your dentist will advise you on how to wear them throughout your treatment plan. You will change your trays throughout the treatment to slowly move your teeth into a straighter smile, so each tray is molded to move this process along. You will wear your trays for at least 20 hours per day, so they should only be removed for eating and brushing.

Once your trays have been completed in full your dentist will again take some time to review your situation, and to ensure that the treatment has gone as planned.
